Wolves picked up their first league win of the season and lifted themselves off the bottom of the Premier League table in the process as they beat fellow strugglers Southampton 2-0 at Molineux.
The home side had a dream start to the game as Pablo Sarabia put them ahead inside 2 minutes- the fastest Premier League goal in the club’s history. Southampton thought they had equalised through Ryan Manning a few minutes later, but VAR disallowed the goal, with Wolves’ Nelson Semedo ruled to have been fouled in the build-up.
A stunner from Matheus Cunha shortly after the interval doubled Wolves’ advantage. The Brazilian, who had also assisted the first goal, scored from long distance to beat Aaron Ramsdale in the 51st minute of the game.
Southampton had 72% of possession and over 670 passes to Wolves’ 278, but had nothing to show on the scoreboard for their efforts. Saints also had 9 corners in the game- Wolves had just the solitary one by comparison, but the visitors had to come away empty-handed from Molineux.
Instead of Wolves, Saints will now be the bottom placed team heading into the November international break. They will host Liverpool later this month while Wolves will travel to Fulham.
