Dean Smith suffered his first defeat as Norwich manager as Spurs beat the Canaries 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The result saw the Lilywhites leapfrog arch rivals Arsenal, who are away at Goodison Park to Rafa Benitez’s Everton on Monday night.
The first genuine chance of the game went to Norwich, but Finnish forward Teemu Pukki was only able to fire his attempt straight at Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
A stunner from Lucas Moura in the 10th minute, with the Brazilian firing one into the top corner past Tim Krul from distance, saw the hosts take a 1-0 lead into the break.
Norwich had a glorious opportunity to equalise close to the hour mark but Anthony Idah failed to find the back of the net from point blank range. They were made to pay eight minutes later when Davinson Sanchez made it 2-0 from a corner. Heung Min Son then sealed a comfortable victory with his 77th minute effort.
Harry Kane could’ve also had a goal earlier in the game, but his chipped effort, with Krul off his line, was wide. Spurs will now face Rennes in the Europa League while Norwich will take on Ralf Rangnick’s Man United next weekend.
