Darwin Nunez scored two goals late in the game to finish an amazing comeback and give 10-man Liverpool a remarkable win against Newcastle Utd at St James’ Park.
The Reds were up against it for most of the match, after going behind early to Anthony Gordon’s goal and then having captain Virgil van Dijk sent off for a straight red moments later.
Newcastle then pressed for a second having Miguel Almiron’s shot brilliantly saved on to the crossbar by Allison. Almiron also hit the post after the break, after making a great run and beating two Liverpool players.
Despite being down to 10-men Liverpool started to create some pressure of their own late in the game. That pressure was rewarded when substitute Darwin Nunez went through on goal to power a low shot past Newcastle keeper Nick Pope into the bottom right corner.
Then with only minutes left, Mohamed Salah provided a great pass into the stride of Nunez who once again finished superbly to score and give Liverpool a dramatic win.
Newcastle were left stunned. Liverpool elated in a game that had everthing.
