Manchester United bounced back from Sunday’s disappointing away loss at Newcastle as they beat Brentford 1-0 at Old Trafford. Marcus Rashford’s 28th goal in all competitions, scored in the 27th minute of this game, was enough for the Red Devils to run out winners against the Bees.
United had been thrashed 4-0 by Brentford in the reverse fixture earlier this season and avenged the loss by picking up three valuable points that sees them back in fourth place. The goal came from a very well-taken Rashford finish, with Marcel Sabitzer setting him up with a header after United’s original corner had been cleared away by the Brentford defence.
The visitors’ only real chance of the game went to substitute Kevin Schade in the second half, but he was denied from close range by United keeper David de Gea. Fred had an opportunity to make 2-0 at the end for United, but he blazed his effort over.
Victory at Old Trafford could’ve seen the Bees leapfrog both Aston Villa and Liverpool in the league standings, but they stay in 9th, four points ahead of Fulham.
United’s next fixture is at home against relegation threatened Everton while Brentford will host European hopefuls Newcastle this weekend.
