Defending champions Manchester City drew for the third time in a row as Tottenham Hotspur came away with a point at the end of a six-goal thriller at the Etihad Stadium. City went into this fixture on the back of draws against Chelsea and Liverpool, and this 3-3 result sees them fall three points behind leaders Arsenal.
Heung-Min Son scored at both ends within the first ten minutes and Phil Foden’s 31st minute close-range goal saw City lead 2-1 at the end of the first half. The Citizens were good value for their lead, with the likes of Jeremy Doku, Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez also going close.
Giovani Lo Celso’s strike midway through the second half drew Spurs level, but Jack Grealish’s first goal since April restored City’s lead on 81 minutes. Swedish winger Dejan Kulusevski however equalised in the 90th minute with a fine header as Spurs ended their own three game losing streak.
There was controversy at the end, with referee Simon Hooper accused of calling play back when Grealish was advancing on goal in a potential 1 on 1 situation after having originally given City the advantage.
Pep Guardiola’s side will now face in-form Aston Villa in midweek- the latter can leapfrog them in the league standings with a win, while Spurs will host London rivals West Ham.
