Manchester United turned in another woeful performance as they crashed to a 4-0 defeat away at Anfield to arch rivals Liverpool. The result means that the Red Devils have lost 9-0 on aggregate to Jurgen Klopp’s men in the league this season- their heaviest combined league defeat to a team in nearly 130 years.
Liverpool were up and running early at Anfield and had the ball back in the net within five minutes through Colombian forward Luis Diaz. Mo Salah added a second midway through the first half and at the break, United were 2-0 down and hadn’t even mustered a single shot on target.
2-0 became 4-0 at the final whistle with Salah and SadioMane again scoring, and United, without the talismanic Cristiano Ronaldo, were second best in just about every aspect of the game. Liverpool’s midfield Thiago Alcantara in particular, bossed their United counterparts, with the visitors having less than 30% of the ball and only managing one shot on target in the entire game.
Next up for the Reds is a tasty Merseyside derby clash against Everton while United will make the trip to North London to take on Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side this weekend.
