Brentford’s three game winning run was broken by Liverpool as the Bees slumped to a 3-0 defeat at Anfield on Sunday. Thomas Frank’s men had beaten Burnley, Chelsea and West ham in successive games prior to this clash against the Reds, but Jurgen Klopp’s side were too strong for the Bees.
Liverpool went 1-0 up six minutes before the interval thanks to a precise Mo Salah finish after having two earlier goals from Darwin Nunez disallowed by VAR.
Salah also made it 2-0 just after the hour mark, with Brentford’s defenders caught napping by Kostas Tsimikas’ cross as the Egyptian nodded home from close range. A fine individual goal from Diogo Jota put the icing on the cake as the Reds ran out comfortable winners.
Brentford did have a few chances, with Bryan Mbeumo in particular guilty of wasting a great opportunity. Manager Frank also thought Liverpool should have been reduced to ten men following Wataru Endo’s foul on Christiaan Norgaard, but VAR thought otherwise.
Liverpool will now play leaders Man City after the international break while Brentford will host Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal. The Reds are on tied on points with the Gunners and are only one point behind defending champions City in the Premier League Table.
