Luis Diaz netted two goals in quick succession during the first half, helping Liverpool secure a commanding win over Bournemouth at Anfield, bringing them back to winning form in the Premier League.
After a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest the previous week, Arne Slot’s side thought they had conceded the lead when Antoine Semenyo finished off a cross from Justin Kluivert. However, the goal was ruled out for offside following a VAR review.
Liverpool quickly took control, with Diaz, Mohamed Salah, and Darwin Nunez all threatening the Bournemouth defense. Diaz eventually broke the deadlock by rounding Kepa Arrizabalaga and slotting the ball into an open net.
Shortly after, Diaz struck again, this time converting a pass from Trent Alexander-Arnold, sending a low shot through Kepa’s legs to make it 2-0.
Nunez, making his first Premier League start since April, added a third with a stunning curling shot. This was his first league goal in over five months, since a 3-1 victory against Sheffield United.
New arrival Federico Chiesa had a promising debut, testing Kepa with a long-range shot and later hitting the post, though the latter effort was flagged offside.
Bournemouth came close to a consolation goal when they hit the crossbar late in the game, but they ultimately suffered their second consecutive league defeat under Andoni Iraola.
This victory briefly moved Liverpool to the top of the Premier League table ahead of the highly anticipated clash between Manchester City and Arsenal.
