Liverpool 2-1 Wolves Match Report

Relegation threatened Wolverhampton Wanderers gave league leaders Liverpool a scare at Anfield, but eventually slumped to a 2-1 defeat on Sunday afternoon. It was an important game for Arne Slot’s men to return to winning ways following their FA Cup exit and the midweek draw against Everton, and they managed to do so despite turning in a scrappy performance.

Liverpool started well, with Luis Diaz putting them ahead in the 13th minute. The Colombian literally bundled the ball over the line with his chest, but the manner of the goal would not have mattered one bit to manager Slot.

Diaz was then brought down in the area late in the first half, and Mo Salah scored from the spot to put the Reds 2-0 up.

Wolves were a completely different side in the second half though, and pulled one back through a fine individual strike from Matheus Cunha. Liverpool failed to register even a single shot in the second half- the only one was a disallowed goal from Salah, and were forced to defend for their lives towards the end, with the likes of Alisson, Quansah and Endo all having to make vital defensive interventions.

The Reds however held on to claim all three points, but Slot will be aware that a better performance will be required in their upcoming games against Aston Villa and City.
