American manager Jesse Marsch’s first game in charge of Premier League side Leeds United saw the Whites go down 1-0 away at Leicester City. The result was a difficult one to stomach for LUFC, who dominated proceedings, but had nothing to show for their efforts on the scoreboard.
Dan James, Junior Firpo and Raphinha all went close for the visitors but were simply unable to find a way past Danish international Kasper Schmeichel- himself a former Leeds player, in the Foxes goal. Keeper Schmeichel made a set of brilliant saves to keep Leeds at bay, none more so than the one to deny Raphinha from virtually point-blank range on the hour mark.
The solitary goal of the afternoon came from the boot of Harvey Barnes midway through the second half, and it was to be the difference between the two sides at the final whistle.
With the likes of Brentford and Newcastle both winning, things look very worrying for Leeds in the bottom half of the table, and they could potentially slip to 17th in the standings if Everton get the better of Spurs on Monday night.
Leicester’s next game will be a midweek one against Rennes in the Conference League while Leeds will play Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa on Thursday.
