Germany 1-0 Netherlands Match Report

Jamie Leweling scored on his international debut as Germany beat the Netherlands in Munich to book their spot in the last eight of the Nations League.

Leweling was one of two debutants chosen by Die Mannschaft boss Julian Nagelsmann for this game- veteran goalkeeper Oliver Baumann was the other.

The Dutch were without the suspended Virgil van Dijk in central defence, and opted for Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven to partner Stefan de Vrij in their back four.

Leweling thought he had scored early on his debut, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Germany dominated the first half, with the Dutch failing to register even a single shot going into the break.
The hosts’ wait for the goal finally ended shortly after the hour mark when Stuttgart winger Leweling found the back of the net.

The Netherlands came close through Xavi Simons and substitute Donyell Malen, but the Germans held on to claim all three points at the Allianz Arena and are now guaranteed of a spot in the quarterfinals.
Ronald Koeman’s Netherlands meanwhile have 5 points from four games, tied on points with Hungary but ahead of them in the table. The Hungarians beat Bosnia 2-0 in the other group game on the evening, with Liverpool’s Dominik Szoboszlai scoring a brace for them.
