A stunning late goal from Michael Keane helped struggling Everton gain a priceless point in their quest for survival as they came from behind to draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Monday evening.
Keane was at the centre of several key happenings in the game in the second half. It was his foul on Cristian Romero that allowed Harry Kane to put Spurs ahead from the spot in the 68th minute. Spurs substitute Lucas Moura was also sent off towards the end for a foul on Keane. Everton had been playing with ten men at that point following a red card to Abdoulaye Doucoure for hitting Kane in the face.
Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris didn’t even move as Keane’s long-range strike flew past him. It was a disappointing evening for Cristian Stellini, the acting head coach at Spurs, after the Lilywhites had parted company with Antonio Conte a few days ago.
Fourth placed Tottenham now have the same number of points as Newcastle and Man Utd, but the Magpies, the Red Devils and even sixth placed Brighton have games in hand over the Lilywhites.
Spurs will now face the Seagulls in their next game while Everton will be travelling to Old Trafford to take on Erik ten Hag’s United.
