Late goals from Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane gave England a hard-fought 2-1 win over Slovakia in their Round of 16 clash. The result sees the Three Lions book a quarterfinal clash against Switzerland, who upset defending champions Italy in their Round of 16 game.
Kobie Mainoo got a start in midfield alongside Declan Rice, but England were again poor and bereft of ideas going forward. They trailed to an early Ivan Schranz goal and had a Phil Foden goal disallowed for offside.
When Kieran Trippier was injured in the second half, England manager Gareth Southgate introduced Cole Palmer and switched Bukayo Saka to left back. He also introduced Eberechi Eze and Ivan Toney off the bench, but there was no equaliser until Jude Bellingham pulled off a stunning bicycle kick deep into stoppage time.
Skipper Harry Kane then scored a header just as extra time began to put England 2-1 ahead. Both the goal scorers were substituted off in extra time, with Ezri Konsa and Conor Gallagher coming on.
Slovakia tried their best but were unable to get the second goal that would take the game to penalties, and England held on to advance to the last eight despite another shaky performance.
