England maintained their unbeaten run at Euro 2024 as they drew 0-0 with Slovenia to finish as winners of Group C. The game was however another dull affair, with barely any chances created by the Three Lions and their opponents.
Manager Gareth Southgate opted for Conor Gallagher to start in midfield alongside Declan Rice, with Trent-Alexander Arnold making way for the Chelsea midfielder. Gallagher was however hooked at half-time for Man Utd youngster Kobie Mainoo, meaning that Rice has now had three different midfield partners at this tournament. Mainoo was impressive in his time on the pitch, and might keep his place for the knockout stages.
England had a goal disallowed through offside in the first half and another chance at the far post for skipper Harry Kane, but that was pretty much it. Slovenia were happy to sit back and play for the draw- it ensured they progressed to the Round of 16 as one of the best third placed teams.
The other group game between Denmark and Serbia also ended in a 0-0 draw, with the Danes progressing as runners up over Slovenia owing to their better disciplinary record. The six games in the group produced a total of just 7 goals.
