Martin Odegaard scored a penalty to give 10-man Arsenal a good Premier League win against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Eddie Nketiah looked sharp the whole game and was brought down by Sam Johnstone after Martinelli’s quickly taken free-kick, Odegaard stepped up to send the Palace goalkeeper the wrong way from the penalty spot.
After the goal Arsenal looked in control, but they had to hang on in the end after left-back Takehiro Tomiyasu was sent off after being shown a second yellow. It looked a harsh decision for a very soft foul on Jordan Ayew and the first yellow was for taking too long over a throw-in.
Palace piled on the pressure, with Tyrick Mitchell blazing over the bar in injury time. In the end Arsenal were made to weather the storm but eventually got over the line for a well deserved victory.
That’s now six points from two games for the Gunners, matching both Brighton and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.
Next up for Arsenal is a home clash with Fulham, who were disappointing in their 3-0 defeat to Brentford on Saturday.
