Marcus Rashford’s first half red card proved to be a vital turning point as Copenhagen came from 2-0 down to stun Manchester United 4-3 on MD4. The result means that the Red Devils have now lost three of their four group stage games so far and are bottom of the table going into the final two fixtures.
United started brightly, with Scott Tominay squaring the ball for Rasmus Hojlund to score in the 3rd minute of the game. Hojlund made it 2-0 in the 28th minute with another tap-in- another easy finish after
FCK keeper Kamil Grabrara had parried Garnacho’s first time shot into his path. However, Rashford’s red card just before half time spurred Copenhagen into action and they scored twice before half time, first through Mohamed Elyounussi, and then from the penalty spot through Diogo Goncalves.
United were given a lifeline when Lukas Lerager was penalised for handball, with Bruno Fernandes converting the resulting spot kick. However, Lerager atoned for his mistake by making it 3-3 in the 83rd minute and teenager Roony Bardghji grabbed a spectacular winner four minutes later to send the Parken faithful into raptures of delight.
