Cole Palmer continued his rich vein of goal-scoring form as Chelsea picked up their biggest win of the season with a 6-0 triumph over Sean Dyche’s Everton at Stamford Bridge. Palmer scored four of Chelsea’s six goals on the evening, with relegation-threatened Everton not really testing the Blues.
Palmer’s fine finish from the edge of the box on 13 minutes after a nice one-two with Nicolas Jackson set the Blues on their way. Just five minutes later, Jackson’s shot was saved by Everton keeper Jordan Pickford, but Palmer was on hand to head home the rebound.
A horrible pass from Pickford gifted Palmer his hat-trick goal, and the game was over as a contest by half time as Jackson volleyed home just before the interval to make it 4-0.
Palmer scored his fourth, and Chelsea’s fifth of the game, from the spot after the hour mark, although Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino would not have been pleased to see a bunch of his players arguing on the pitch for the right to take the spot kick.
Youngster Alfie Gilchrist made it 6-0 towards the end of the game. The result re-invigorates Chelsea’s European hopes but leaves Everton in trouble, with the Toffees’ next game against fellow strugglers Nottingham Forest shaping up to be a massive one.
