Conor Gallagher came off the bench to score a fine late winner as Chelsea edged Leeds 3-2 in their midweek FA Cup tie. The Blues came into the fixture on the back of a disappointing Carabao Cup final loss to Liverpool, but this win over the Whites keeps their hope of silverware alive, with Leicester set to be their next opponents in the last eight of the competition.
It was Leeds who took the lead in this fixture. The visitors’ pressing was relentless and they pounced on a mix-up between Axel Disasi and Moises Caicedo on the edge of the area, with Mateo Joseph converting.
Chelsea fought back through goals from Nicolas Jackson and Mykhailo Mudryk- both well taken finishes, but Joseph brought his side back by nodding home just before the hour mark.
Maurico Pochettino rang in the changes and it was one of his subs- midfielder Conor Gallagher, who prevented the tie from going into extra time. He latched onto an Enzo Fernandez pass in the 90th minute before finding the back of the net to break LUFC hearts.
The Blues will now take on Brentford this weekend while Leeds will play local rivals Huddersfield Town.
