Liverpool halted a run of three successive defeats as they held manager-less Chelsea to a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge. The Reds, without the likes of Andy Robertson, Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah in their starting XI, offered very little going forward but were aided by Chelsea’s own profligacy in front of goal.
The Blues wasted nearly half-a-dozen decent chances to go ahead. The first one fell to Joao Felix, who took a second too long to pull the trigger after having made a fine run from midfield into the opposition box. The next one fell to Mateo Kovacic, whose shot was cleared off the line by Ibrahima Konate.
Kai Havertz was denied by Alisson from close range while Kovacic then slammed one over with the goal at his mercy. Havertz finally found the back of the net from a rebound shot after his original one had been saved by Alisson, only for VAR to disallow it for handball.
Apart from the Havertz one above, Chelsea also had a Reece James goal disallowed and were forced to settle for a disappointing 0-0 draw at the final whistle despite being the better team.
The Blues will now travel to Wolves, while Liverpool will host leaders Arsenal this weekend.
