Bournemouth ended a seven-game winless league run as they beat Vincent Kompany’s Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor. The Cherries had been without a PL win since their 3-0 triumph over Fulham on Boxing Day last year and now have some much-needed breathing space after picking up three priceless points on the road.
Relegation-threatened Burnley had only themselves to blame- they had several chances, 75% of possession, twice as many shots and nearly thrice as many passes as their opponents, but somehow ended on the wrong side of the scoreline.
Jacob Bruun-Larsen had his shot brilliantly blocked by Adam Smith and another free kick saved by Neto. Vitinho nodded over from close range while Josh Cullen had the ball in the back of the net, only for it to be disallowed.
Bournemouth’s goals came from Justin Kluivert and Antoine Semenyo. Justin, the son of Dutch legend Patrick Kluivert, took advantage of some shabby Burnley defending to score the opener following a long ball from Lewis Cook.
Cook also grabbed the assist for Burnley’s second, with Semenyo’s effort taking a deflection off Clarets defender Charlie Taylor.
Bournemouth’s next clash is a home one against Sheffield United while Burnley will travel to the London Stadium to take on West Ham.
