Brighton 3-2 Tottenham Hotspur Match Report

Tottenham squandered a two-goal half-time advantage as they went down 3-2 to Brighton and Hove Albion in Week 7’s final Premier League fixture on the South Coast.

Spurs, fresh from their comfortable win over Man Utd last weekend, dominated the first half at the Amex Stadium, with Brighton’s high-line being exploited by the Lilywhites’ pacy wide men. They could’ve gone ahead as early as the first minute but Timo Werner’s final pass to Brennan Johnson had a little too much on it, and the chance was gone.

Werner also had a goal disallowed for offside, but it was a matter of time before Spurs scored and it finally came through Johnson after Georgino Rutter had lost possession in midfield. James Madisson then doubled Spurs’ advantage in the 37th minute although Seagulls keeper Verbruggen could’ve done better to stop the medio’s effort.

Brighton hit back after the interval through Yankuba Minteh and Rutter atoned for his earlier error by scoring the equaliser on 58 minutes. Danny Welbeck’s header in the 65th minute completed their stunning comeback as opposition boss Ange Postecoglou cut a frustrated and shocked figure on the sidelines.

Brighton’s next game will be an away trip to Newcastle while Spurs will host local rivals West Ham United.
