Barcelona star Raphinha scored a brace from the penalty spot as Brazil comfortably beat Peru 4-0 in World Cup qualifying. The result, coupled with their 2-1 triumph over Chile a few days ago, means back to back victories for Brazil after a poor start to their campaign.
The visitors conceded a penalty late in the first half for handball, and Raphinha sent the keeper the wrong way to put Brazil 1-0 ahead. Peru didn’t trouble Ederson in the first half- they didn’t muster even a single shot.
Another penalty, this time for a foul on Savinho by Carlos Zambrano, saw Raphinha double Brazil’s advantage. Peruvian keeper Pedro Gallese guessed right, but was still unable to prevent the spot kick from going on.
An acrobatic effort from Andreas Pereira made it 3-0 in the 71st minute and Luiz Henrique, who had assisted Andreas’ goal, then turned goal scorer himself with a fine finish. The hosts eventually finished with 18 shots- six times as many as Peru managed in the game (3).
Brazil now have 16 points from 10 games and are only behind third placed Uruguay on goal difference. Their next game is an away trip to Venezuela in November.
