Spurs started the game well and Dominic Solanke wasted a glorious early chance for the Lilywhites. But they conceded a needless corner at the other end, and from the resulting set piece, Dean Huijsen nodded home to become Bournemouth’s youngest ever scorer in the Premier League.
Tavernier, who had assisted Huijsen’s goal, then had his own strike disallowed for offside and another saved from close range by Spurs keeper Fraser Forster.
Spurs had a Son goal disallowed for offside in the second half, but struggled to impose themselves on the game, and the visitors struggled defensively after losing veteran Ben Davies to injury. Spurs will now have to pick themselves up for a London derby against Chelsea while Bournemouth will square off against league newbies Ipswich at Portman Road.
