Goals from teenagers Evan Ferguson and Julio Enciso gave Brighton and Hove Albion a 2-0 win over struggling Bournemouth on Tuesday night. The result means that the Seagulls are now just four points behind fourth placed Spurs with two games in hand, and the upcoming clash between the two sides at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend shapes up as a massive one in the race for European football.
Ferguson’s superb backheel flick put the Seagulls 1-0 up and Enciso sealed victory in second half stoppage time, finishing from close range after tricking his way through the Bournemouth defence. It was also the young Paraguayan’s first ever goal for Brighton.
The Seagulls didn’t have it all their own way though – Bournemouth had several decent chances, with the likes of Dominic Solanke, Hamad Traore and Jefferson Lerma all going close.
The Cherries fall back into the drop zone on goal difference as a result of this defeat and their next game is against second from bottom Leicester City, who were beaten 2-1 at home by Aston Villa. West Ham, Everton, and Forest have the same number of points as Bournemouth, but the Cherries’ goal difference (-30) is the worst of the quartet.
