Bayern 1-1 Celtic Match Report

Celtic put in a brave display at the Allianz Arena, but ultimately fell short as Alphonso Davies’ last minute equaliser sent German giants Bayern Munich into the Round of 16. The Bavarians, who progressed 3-2 on aggregate, will now meet either fellow Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen or Spanish side Atletico Madrid in the next round.

Celtic, who had lost 2-1 in the first leg in Glasgow, had two glorious chances in the opening quarter of the game. The first was squandered by Callum McGregor, while the second, an even better opportunity for Nicolas Kuhn, was cleared off the line by Bayern defender Raphael Guerreiro.

Bayern striker Harry Kane, who had suffered a blow in the face over the weekend, lasted only one half before being replaced at the break by Kingsley Coman.

Celtic finally got the goal they deserved in the 63rd minute when Kim-Min Jae made a hash of his attempted clearance, and the ball again fell to Kuhn, who made no mistake this time around.

But there was to be late heartbreak for the Scottish giants. Goalkeper Kasper Schmeichel did well initially to deny Leon Goretzka, but Cameron Carter-Vickers’ attempted clearance saw the defender push the ball onto Alphonso Davies’ foot and into an empty net.
