Arsenal took a big step towards the Round of 16 as they comfortably beat Sevilla 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners came into this game after successive defeats at the hands of West Ham and Newcastle but outclassed Sevilla, who were extremely poor and managed only one shot on target in the entire game- and that one came deep into second half stoppage time.
The hosts had an early opportunity to take the lead but Kai Havertz headed wide at the far post. They finally went ahead in the 28th minute, with Bukayo Saka squaring the ball to Leandro Trossard, who slotted home from close range.
Saka then turned scorer himself midway through the second half and his fine individual effort made it 2-0 and sealed victory for the Gunners. David Raya enjoyed a comfortable evening under the sticks- as mentioned above, Sevilla’s only shot in the entire game came through Mariano Diaz in the 97th minute.
The other group game between Lens and PSV ended 1-0 in favour of the latter, meaning that Arsenal now have a four-point advantage at the top of Group B.
The Gunners will play Burnley in the league this weekend while Sevilla will square off against Real Betis.
