Simone Inzaghi secured his first league title as Inter manager as the Nerazzurri beat bitter rivals AC Milan 2-1 on Monday at the San Siro. The victory sealed Inter’s 20th Scudetto and means that they can now have a second star on their jersey (one for every 10 league titles)
Inter took the lead through Francesco Acerbi in the 18th minute. The veteran defender, a former Milan player himself, nodded home from a corner following a flick-on from Benjamin Pavard.
Both Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram squandered excellent opportunities to make it 2-0, but French forward Thuram atoned for his earlier miss with a fine goal from the edge of the area just after half time.
Fikayo Tomori’s 80th minute header, scored on the rebound after Matteo Gabbia’s initial effort had been saved by Inter keeper Yann Sommer, gave Milan hope of a comeback, but the Nerazzurri hung on to win 2-1.
There was late drama in the fixture, with three players getting sent off in stoppage time- Theo Hernandez and Davide Calabria for Milan and Denzel Dumfries for Inter.
The victory was also Inter’s sixth straight one against their bitter rivals in the Milan derby.
