AC Milan 1-1 Feyenoord Match Report

Italian giants AC Milan were knocked out of the Champions League by Dutch outfit Feyenoord at the San Siro, with Rossoneri defender Theo Hernandez’s early second-half red card proving to be a vital turning point in the tie.

Milan, who had lost the first leg 1-0 at De Kuip, had a dream start in the second leg, with former Feyenoord star Santiago Gimenez putting them ahead in the 1st minute. He nodded home from close range after Christian Pulisic’s initial cross was headed by Malick Thiaw into the Mexican international’s path.

Milan dominated the first half, but couldn’t add to their tally going into the break. Hernandez, who had been booked just before the interval, then picked up a second yellow for diving in the 51st minute and was sent off as a result.

Feyenoord got the goal they were looking for in the 73rd minute, with Argentine substitute Julian Carranza heading one past Milan keeper Mike Maignan.

Despite their best efforts, Milan couldn’t get another goal and Feyenoord, coached by interim manager Pascal Bosschaart, held on to progress 2-1 on aggregate.

It was a disappointing evening for Italian sides, with Atalanta also suffering a shock exit at home to Belgian side Club Brugge.
