Chelsea 4-0 Southampton Match Report

Chelsea ended a three-game losing run as they beat bottom of the table Southampton 4-0 on Tuesday night. It was a welcome result to the Blues, who had lost twice to Brighton and once to Aston Villa coming into this game against the Saints.

The Blues opened the scoring midway through the first half, with French striker Christopher Nkunku nodding home at the far post following a corner. Southampton were their own worst enemies for the second, with Felix Downes giving the ball away cheaply to Marc Cucurella, and Chelsea worked their way further up the pitch, where Pedro Neto’s left footed strike beat Saints keeper Aaron Ramsdale.

Neto was to turn provider for the third, with his free-kick nodded in by defender Levi Colwill just before half time as Chelsea went into the interval with a three-goal lead.

Cucurella scored the fourth and final goal of the evening on 78 minutes, with youngster Tyrique George registering his maiden Premier League assist in the process.

It was a fourth straight defeat for Saints, who now have the unenviable task of picking themselves up for a trip to Anfield next week. Chelsea, on the other hand, will be in European action against FC Copenhagen.
