Newcastle United picked up their ninth straight win across all competitions as they beat Wolves 3-0 at St. James Park. The star of the show for the Magpies was again striker Alexander Isak, with the Swede scoring the first two goals on the evening and assisting Anthony Gordon for the third.
Newcastle haven’t dropped points since losing to Brentford in early December, and that nine-game streak has seen Eddie Howe’s side claim some famous scalps, with the likes of Aston Villa, Spurs, Man United and Arsenal all falling to the Magpies.
There was an element of fortune regarding Newcastle’s first goal here, with Isak’s long-range shot taking a deflection to leave Jose Sa helpless in the Wolves goal. The second was a piece of brilliance from Bruno Guimaraes, who brilliantly set up Isak on 54 minutes.
Wolves had their chances, with Goncalo Guedes and Jorgen Strand-Larsen both going close. Manager Vitor Pereira even introduced Matheus Cunha at half time, but to no avail, with defensive frailties costing the Midlands outfit dear.
Newcastle’s quest for a tenth straight win will see them host Bournemouth this weekend, while Wolves will travel to London to take on Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
