Fulham moved into the top six with a fine 3-1 win over high flying Brighton at Craven Cottage on Thursday night. Alex Iwobi scored for the Cottagers on either side of Matt O’Riley’s own goal as the home side picked up three crucial points ahead of a busy month that will see them lock horns against the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea.
Iwobi put Fulham ahead in the 4th minute, capitalising on a bad mistake from Brighton keeper Bart Verbruggen. Albion then pushed hard for an equaliser, but Cottagers keeper Bernd Leno did well to deny both Joao Pedro and Simon Adingra from close range, while defender Van Hecke saw his header go over the bar.
Brighton finally got the goal they craved, with Carlos Baleba’s fine finish drawing them level on 56 minutes. However O’Riley’s own goal from a corner saw Fulham re-take the lead, and Iwobi then sealed all three points with his 87th minute effort.
The Seagulls had 57% of the ball and more than twice the number of shots, but had to go back home empty-handed. They will now travel to the Midlands to take on Leicester City this weekend while Fulham will be at home to Arsenal.
