Alejandro Garnacho scored a goal of the season contender as Manchester United beat Sean Dyche’s Everton 3-0 at Goodison Park. The result now means that United are just five points behind defending champions Man City, who drew 1-1 with Liverpool over the weekend.
Garnacho silenced Goodison Park with an outrageous bicycle kick two minutes into the game to put United 1-0 ahead. It brought back memories of a similar strike from Wayne Rooney twelve years ago for the United faithful.
Everton however were the more dominant side in the first half- Dominic Calvert Lewin had two header opportunities, with Abdoulaye Doucoure and Gana Gueye also going close. United youngster Kobbie Mainoo also had to clear one off his own line as the Toffees pushed for an equaliser.
The Red Devils scored a second goal when Ashley Young was penalised for fouling Anthony Martial in the area. Referee John Brooks initially gave Martial a yellow for diving, but changed his decision after intervention from VAR. Rashford converted the spot kick, and Martial himself scored a third in the 75th minute as the Red Devils ran out 3-0 winners.
United will now travel to Galatasaray in the Champions League while Everton’s next fixture is away at Nottingham Forest
